Matthew Berumen is the County Court Judge in Las Animas County, Colorado. Matthew was appointed to the bench by Governor Polis in January 2026 and took the bench in February 2026. Prior to his appointment, Judge Berumen was in private practice for 28 years. Before moving to Trinidad, Colorado, Matthew was the past-president of the Broadmoor District Rotary Club and was the Chairman of the club’s Board of Directors. He also was a member of the Board of Directors for the Pike Peak Area Rotary Endowment and a member of the Board of Directors of the Colorado Creditors Bar Association. Judge Berumen graduated from Colorado State University in 1992 and Whittier College in 1997.
